課程概述 |
Based on the CMIP6 experiment design, forcing and future scenario, we will introduce the need of an Earth System Model (ESM) and how to model the global climate variability. We will briefly discuss the physics and dynamics associated with the major components within the ESM; including the atmosphere, ocean, land and sea-ice. The NCAR-Community Earth System Model will be used as an example to address these components. The students will need to practice, analyze and interpret the model results. The following topics are covered:
CESM, TaiESM usage and post-process
CMIP6 model data analysis
Atmospheric general circulation model
Ocean general circulation model
Land model
Sea-ice model
Other earth system and climate model

課程目標 |
This course aims at an improved understanding of global interaction within the ESM to better understand the climate change and variability. All model components within the ESM will be introduced. We will have the ESM running, practice, and analysis. |
課程要求 |
The basic knowledge of UNIX system and computer programming (undergraduate level) is required. The fluid mechanics, numerical analysis, numerical methods and other earth system modeling courses are recommended but not necessary. |
